When taking part in a Teenagers Abroad Summer Camp Program in Devon County, it is very important that all of our students feel that they are safe and like they are “at home” while living with a host family.
A friendly and safe living enviroment has proven to enhance the language learning process among young students. The reasoning behind this is that when students feel safe in a comfortable atmophere, they tend to be able to focus better on their English course work.
If you choose to live with a host family in Devon, then you will stay in a double or triple room in an authentic British family’s home in the quaint coastal town of Exmouth. Full board (3 meals per day) will be provided to you, which includes a daily packed lunch to take to school.
It is important to note that most host families in Devon do not live close to the city's center; however, downtown Exmouth is easily reachable through use of the public transportation system. Living with a host family in Devon is the most effective way to fully immerse into British culture, traditions, cuisine and the English language.
Facilities while living with a host family in Devon include:
• 3 Meals (packed lunch) are provided daily
• Double or triple rooms are shared by friends or students
• Host families in Devoni live approximately 20 to 40 minutes from the language school
• Students must travel to & from English courses using public transportation
Important Notes:
Students living with a host family in Devon, will receive only a limited amount of formal supervision outside of their English courses. It is expected that students travel alone to & from the language school every day with the public transportation system of Devon or by walking (depending on host family's exact location).
Generally, on the first day of the English courses, a member of the host family will escort the student to our language school in Devon. Once the student has learned how to get to / from the language school, he/she will be expected to travel independently using detailed directions given to him/her by the host family.
Once all English courses and scheduled recreational activities are finished for the day, students are required to return to their host family accommodation for dinner. Only with prior signed parental consent will students be permitted to leave their accommodation in the evenings and/or on the weekends.
Host families in Devon have been given the right to enforce all program rules and curfews. If students do not obey all curfew times and rules, they will lose their rights to go out at night altogether.
The host family type of accommodation is generally recommended for young, independent students - usually between 15 & 17 years old. Outside of organized activities and English courses, adult supervision may be very limited. Therefore, students must have a decent level of maturity, confidence and international travel experience before booking this accommodation option.
We also request to be made aware of any special requests (such as specials diets, allergies, etc…) when enrolling in a Teenagers Abroad program.
