Host Family Accommodations - Study Abroad - Learn Spanish - Spanish Courses

When students live and study abroad, feeling safe and “at home” is very important for the language learning process, because students can focus better on their work when they feel that they are in a safe and comfortable environment.

By far, the most effective and effective way to fully immerse into Spanish culture & traditions and learn the beautiful language of Malaga is to do so by living with a local host family.

All host families in Malaga are carefully selected through a standardized procedure carried out by our Teenagers Abroad staff. After host families are chosen, they receive regular visits by the language school’s personnel to make certain that they are maintaining the high standards of living.

In order to qualify as a host family in Spain, the home must be within a reasonable distance from the school, have sufficient living space, and the home must provide students with a clean, safe and comfortable environment to live in.

Students will have access to all living areas of the host family’s home, which will include a shared bathroom. We will provide bed linens and pillows, but students of the summer camp program should bring their own towels. Laundry services could be provided or the host family’s laundry facilities can be used at a small additional charge.

Host families in Malaga will make you feel like you are at your “home away from home” by taking time to have daily conversations with you. They will provide 2 to 3 meals per day. Students will either have lunch at the school cafeteria, local restaurants or have a packed lunch from their host family.

However, it is important to keep in mind that, typically, host families in Malaga have a different cultural background than the students of our summer camp programs. This basically means that students have to adapt to the new customs and be opened to meals that they may not be accustomed to eating. Still though, students are expected attempt to get along with the host family, as well as obey all house rules.

Important Notes:
Although students will be living with a host family in Malaga, formal supervision may be limited. Also, students must travel alone to & from the summer camp program's language school every day by public transit or walking.

Typically, on the first day of Spanish courses, a host family member will escort the student to the language school. Once the student has learned their way, he/she will be expected to travel independently using detailed directions given to them by the host family.

It can happen that two students from our summer camp program stay with the same host family in Malaga. Normally, in this case, the students will/can travel together to & from the language school.

Once all Spanish courses and scheduled activities are finished for the day, students must return to their host family's home for dinner. Only with prior signed parental consent are students permitted to leave in the evenings and/or the weekend.

Host families have the right to enforce curfews. If students do not abide by the curfew times, they will lose their rights to go out at night altogether.

The host family accommodation is recommended for young, independent students - usually between 15 & 17 years old. Outside of organized activities and Spanish courses, adult supervision may be limited. Therefore, students must have a decent level of maturity, confidence and international travel experience before booking the host family accommodation option.

We also request to be made aware of any special requests (such as specials diets, allergies, etc…) when enrolling.
