Discover Costa Rica & Learn Spanish during a Teenagers Abroad Summer Camp Program in San Jose!

Students participating in Spanish courses during a Teenagers Abroad Summer Camp Program in San Jose can practice their Spanish language skills while enjoying the following day excursions in Costa Rica!

Arenal Volcano:
Students will visit this active volcano for an experience they are surely never to forget. This excursion is for 2 days (1 night) so that the students have the opportunity to see the glowing lava flow from the volcano at nighttime. Students may also relax at a natural hot springs spa that is nearby the Arenal volcano.

Cartago Tour:
The former capital of Costa Rica is the historical city of Cartago. It was founded in 1563 and is located at the base of the dormant Irazu volcano. Students will visit the statue of Costa Rica’s patron saint, la Virgen de los Angeles, which can be found in the nation’s most famous church, La Basilica. Every year on August 2nd, Costa Ricans come to the church and pay homage to the blessed statue. While in Cartago, students will also visit Las Ruinas - a historical church that was destroyed in 1910 by an earthquake. The remains of a huge stone wall are an iconic Costa Rican image.

Butterfly Farm:
Just outside of San José is a wonderfully interesting butterfly farm. There, students can learn everything they ever wanted to know about butterflies, their host plants and even predators. The tour will show the beautiful transformation of the butterfly during metamorphosis.

Zoo Ave:
In La Garita, Alajuela is a non-traditional zoological park. The zoo has plenty to see, such as monkeys, alligators, snakes and cougars. The zoo also acts as a rescue center for endangered birds, which gives students the chance to view rescued wildlife.

Poas Volcano, River Boat & Waterfall:

Spanish Courses - Study Abroad - Learn Spanish

During this excursion, students will take a trip to the Poas Volcano, the La Paz Waterfalls, take a boat ride on the Sarapiquí River, and take a ride into the Braulio Carrillo National Park rainforest. Participants will visit coffee plantations, dairy farms and gigantic cultivations of strawberries, ferns, blackberries and ornamental flowers. Students will then ride on a motor boat on the Sarapiquí River, through the jungle and many farms. Lastly, students will experience the out-of-this-world views from on top of the enormous mountains found in the rainforest of Braulio Carrillo National Park.

Isla Tortuga:
This is by far one of the students’ favorite excursions. First, they arrive on the white sand beach of the Isla Tortuga by catamaran. On the hour catamaran ride there, students will see the beautiful scenery and sparkling ocean of the Gulf of Nicoya Islands. Once at the Tortuga Island, students have plenty of time to do activities, such as swimming, snorkeling, kayaking and various beach sports.

Punta Leona Beach & Rain Forest Tour:
At this Pacific Coast Biological Reserve, students will see the geographical transition from rainforest to dry tropical forest that can only be found in Costa Rica. Also on the tour, students will learn about the plants, birds, reptiles and other mammals that they may see along the way. At the end of the day, students will enjoy spending the night at a hotel on the beach.

Amusement Park:
This is purely a day of fun at San José’s only amusement park. There are monstrous roller coasters and many other exciting rides at the park. There is even a historical section of the park that shows students how Costa Ricans lived years ago.
