The society of Rabat is comprised of Sunni Muslims of Arab, Berber decent, and a mixed group of Arab-Berber groups. Arabic is the local native language of the region.
Rabat has been loyal to its age-old traditions and cultures, not only in lifestyles, but in its architectural style. Rabat have managed to modernize without losing the richness and beauty of the past and is a quiet and safe city without the hustle of the larger cities.
Due to Rabat's central location, it is perfectly located to allow students to explore other great Moroccan cities at the weekends. Casablanca and the Imperial Moroccan capitals of Meknes, Marrakech, and Fes are within easy reach by bus or train.
The quiet neighborhood streets around the school are wide, with large private gardens and beautiful over grown flowering shrubs and bushes. Within a 5 - 10 minute walk of the school you can reach most amenities including a supermarket, cafés, tea houses, ice cream parlors, restaurants, many foreign embassies and gym.
The school is housed in a spacious (4,000 sq ft) facility and enclosed within it's own tranquil garden. The school offers plenty of study space and offers the student a place for quiet study or reflection, away from the every day hustle and bustle of city life in Morocco.
The school is run by an American who is married to a Morrocan and loves Rabat. She will supervise and over see our teen program in Rabat, encouraging students to learn and appreciate the Moroocan culture and way of life.
Additional school information & photos
The first day of the program is dedicated to welcome students, to test students' language levels and to make sure everyone is familiar with the school policies, the premises and the area.
On the first day of school a placement test is administered to determine the student's level of Spanish. This way, students can start lessons straight away after they have been placed at the appropriate level. If a student is an absolute beginner, they do not have to take a test, and they can start lessons immediately.
Depending on the location of the Host family, students can either walk, take public transport or catch a taxi to school each day. We would advise $120.00 per week for spending money.
When staying with a family you should have realistic expectations and be flexible in adjusting to the local customs, standard of accommodation and Moroccan daily life.
The family provides 2 meals daily and lunch is provided by the school Monday - Friday and enjoyed with the other students and teachers. Students will also be provided with lunch on excursion days.
Though Moroccans are advancing fast, they are still for the most part a very traditional nation. This is clearly reflected in their dress. As students, it would be wisest to pay attention to your own dress as what you wear could offend locals.
