NEW PROGRAM FOR 2008

Spend your summer in RABAT
in the capital of Morocco, enjoy a full schedule of leisure, cultural activities and excursions with other international students of the same age....

Rabat is the capital of the Kingdom of Morocco.

The society of Rabat is comprised of Sunni Muslims of Arab, Berber decent, and a mixed group of Arab-Berber groups. Arabic is the local native language of the region.

Rabat has been loyal to its age-old traditions and cultures, not only in lifestyles, but in its architectural style. Rabat have managed to modernize without losing the richness and beauty of the past and is a quiet and safe city without the hustle of the larger cities.

Due to Rabat's central location, it is perfectly located to allow students to explore other great Moroccan cities at the weekends. Casablanca and the Imperial Moroccan capitals of Meknes, Marrakech, and Fes are within easy reach by bus or train.

Our Arabic Teen program is located in the prestigious residential area of Souissi, only a 10 minute ride by bus to the center of the city / Medina and 15 minutes' drive from Rabat/Sale airport.

The quiet neighborhood streets around the school are wide, with large private gardens and beautiful over grown flowering shrubs and bushes. Within a 5 - 10 minute walk of the school you can reach most amenities including a supermarket, cafés, tea houses, ice cream parlors, restaurants, many foreign embassies and gym.

The school is housed in a spacious (4,000 sq ft) facility and enclosed within it's own tranquil garden. The school offers plenty of study space and offers the student a place for quiet study or reflection, away from the every day hustle and bustle of city life in Morocco.

The school is run by an American who is married to a Morrocan and loves Rabat. She will supervise and over see our teen program in Rabat, encouraging students to learn and appreciate the Moroocan culture and way of life.

School facilities include:
24 hour security
A/C throughout school & classrooms
7 large & bright classrooms
Reception area, library, small cafeteria
Large student kitchen
Computer room with high speed internet access
Social areas
School cafe with patio tables & chairs
Beautiful private gardens with campus grounds
Academic credit for your summer study (if required)

IMPORTANT: A dress code is required for both males and females at school: shirts should have sleeves, no exposed mid driffs or underwear, knees should be covered.

Additional school information & photos

Summer Arabic: 4 group lessons daily
Important: Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) is taught and students will study with adult students during class hours. Class size max 10 students, average 4

Receive transferable credits for this course (if required)

The first day of the program is dedicated to welcome students, to test students' language levels and to make sure everyone is familiar with the school policies, the premises and the area.

On the first day of school a placement test is administered to determine the student's level of Spanish. This way, students can start lessons straight away after they have been placed at the appropriate level. If a student is an absolute beginner, they do not have to take a test, and they can start lessons immediately.

After classes are over for the day, our program allows the student plenty of time for cultural and social activities. Our Arabic courses are supplemented with a wide variety of fascinating opportunities to learn about Arab and Moroccan culture including 4 afternoon activities per week.

The various activities could include: Lectures on Moroccan or Arab culture, video showings of Arabic films, school bbq in garden, bowling, visits to Maamore forest, Exotic Gardens, madina souks, the Oudaya, Hasaan Tower, the Royal Palace, Museum of Art, Medina and perhaps a boat trip on the Bou regreg (river). These activities are conducted in both Arabic and English.

At the weekends the school will lead students on one HALF DAY excursion per week within Rabat and ONE FULL DAY excursion to places of interest outside of Rabat (examples could include):
> The historic city of Fez
> Meknes a UNESCO world heritage site
> Kenitra only one hour by train
> The famous city of Volubilis with it's roman ruins
> Casablanca only 50 Minutes by train

Host family: (private rooms) with 3 meals daily
Our host families are carefully selected by our school director. We require all our host families to live within a reasonable distance of the school (maximum 20 minutes) however due to the residential nature of the local area, many are located close by, within the Souissi community.

Depending on the location of the Host family, students can either walk, take public transport or catch a taxi to school each day. We would advise $120.00 per week for spending money.

When staying with a family you should have realistic expectations and be flexible in adjusting to the local customs, standard of accommodation and Moroccan daily life.

The family provides 2 meals daily and lunch is provided by the school Monday - Friday and enjoyed with the other students and teachers. Students will also be provided with lunch on excursion days.

Though Moroccans are advancing fast, they are still for the most part a very traditional nation. This is clearly reflected in their dress. As students, it would be wisest to pay attention to your own dress as what you wear could offend locals.
