We expect that all students respect and observe our school rules while participating in a study abroad summer camp program in Toronto. We also expect them to cooperate fully with their teachers, monitors, host families, and chaperones.
Students who do not act in accordance to our guidelines will receive a warning from the school staff upon their first violation. If the student’s behavior continues to infringe upon our rules and guidelines, a parent or guardian will be contacted by the school informing them of the situation. If the student still continues to disobey the rules, they will be expelled from the program and sent directly home at their own expense. In this case, no refunds will be given.
All students may stay out until 11pm if accompanied by a group leader. Unaccompanied students may stay out until 8pm. Our group leaders may alter the curfew time based on external circumstances. Also, the curfew may be extended if a program or event organized by teamers/group leaders runs past the curfew time.
We expect students to punctually attend all English courses and planned events, unless the absence is approved first by one of our staff members. If a student becomes ill, before the activity or class begins or prior to leaving early, they must first gain the Activity or School Coordinator’s permission. It may occur that extra activities are held at an additional cost; students are encouraged to participate but attendance is, of course, optional.
Students must obey all local laws and are expected to be courteous and respectful guests at all times.
Intolerable Actions During the Italian Summer Camp Program:
• Hitchhiking
• Smoking (may result with a fine)
• Drinking Alcohol (student may be sent home at their own cost)
• Illegal drug use, abusive behavior or stealing (student will be sent home at their own cost & police report may be filed)
• Robbery (charges may be filed, even for petty theft)
• Cell phone use during class is forbidden
General Misbehavior Warnings:
f necessary, students will be given official warnings to students from the staff or group leaders. Warnings will be in writing and students will have to sign the documents. Parents or guardians will then receive the written warning, informing them of the student’s misbehavior. Typically after a second warning, students will be sent home. In extreme cases (e.g. drug use), students may be sent home upon first offense with no written warning.
Staying with a Host Family in Toronto
When staying with a host family, we expect students to obey house rules and to be ‘home’ by the prearranged curfew time. Each day, students must inform their host family where they’re going and what time they’ll be home. All guests must be pre-approved (written permission) by the camp’s staff and/or host family before they are allow to be brought to the school residence or the host family’s home.
Normally, students may not call long distance from their host family’s accommodation. If desired, parents may make brief calls to their children and should schedule specific times for their child to be reachable at their accommodation.
Staying at the Residence in Toronto
We expect students to due basic chores (making the bed, keeping the bedroom neat and clean) on a daily basis. If a student wishes to go out, they must first inform a group leader or teamer of their full plans (where they’re going, what time they’re coming back, and who is going with them).
Noise: At 10pm, a ‘noise disturbance’ rule goes into effect, so that students aren’t disturbed. At 11pm, students will be required to keep quiet and remain in their rooms for the night. These rules hold true for all accommodation types.
