General rules & guidelines whilst attending a program for underage teens

All under age students will be expected to observe and respect school rules whilst they are studying abroad with TeenagersAbroad.com. They will be expected to follow all instructions given by their monitors /teachers or campus administrators.

Students who do not comply with these guidelines will first receive a warning from the camp staff. The behaviour may then result in the school contacting the parent or guardian to inform them that the parents/guardians must speak with their child directly. Consequently if the student continues to violate the rules then they will be dismissed from the program and sent home at their parent’s expense and will not be entitled to a refund.

Arrival
Parents and students are solely responsible for transportation to and from the school/camp location. We or the school have No responsibility for travel delays or missed flight connections. We strongly recommend students catch direct flights to the airport closest to the school/camp location, where possible. It is the family/students responsibility to inform Teenagers Abroad of the exact arrival details at least 2 weeks prior to the confirmed program start date. Otherwise, we cannot guarantee that the camp and/or host family will be able to meet the student upon arrival.

Student behavior
Students are expected to be courteous and respectful guests and must obey all local laws. Illegal drug use or abusive behavior at any age or alcoholic consumption by minor participants will not be tolerated. Smoking is not allowed on any campus or host family. Parents will be notified immediately of any serious contravention of discipline, including non-attendance or disturbance of classes.

School/activity attendance
The student is expected to attend and arrive on time to all planned events, unless there is a good reason for them not attending. The student must contact the on-site staff, if the they are unable to participate. All afternoon activities in camp programs are mandatory. Camp Monitors take attendance and inform the office of absentee students. For students who are ill, they must have the permission of the Activity or School Co-ordinator in advance or prior to leaving the activity early.

Leaving the school campus without permission
Under no circumstances are students allowed to leave the campus on their own unless they are accompanied by an adult relative or school representative. Relatives/family or friends must inform the camp two days in advance, if they plan to visit the school and take the student out of campus. The main idea of the program is that all students remain within the school campus and under supervision at all times when staying in a summer campus situation. Students will leave the school premises only to take part on trips and activities organized by the Summer Camp and supervised by our staff and faculty members at all times.

A few exceptions will be made under special circumstances as long as we are provided with the proper authorization forms before the program starts. This authorization must contain detailed information of the person/s who will be picking up the student from (and returning to) the camp.

Visits must be arranged well in advance in order to guarantee that the student is available. Some sports activities and other outings take place off the campus of the school. Please contact the on-sight staff directly to arrange visits.

Phone calls (campus)
Due to the active program schedule, it will be impossible to have students come to the phone if parents are calling the school. Therefore, please ask your child or teenager to phone home in his free time. If they have a calling card, make sure he/she knows how to use it.

We advise sending your child a fax message to the camp, made to the attention of your child, if you would like to say hello. Campers normally enjoy receiving these.

Phone calls (host family)
Participants are normally not permitted to make long-distance phone calls from their host family accommodation, however parents may call the participants at the accommodation at specific times. It is also customary to keep calls brief.

Mobile phones
Mobile phones are only allowed at breaks (lunch, snack, dinnertime, excursions, etc) and are not to be used during language lessons, workshops or sports in order to avoid disturbances. When staying on campus, your child’s mobile will be stored until next morning.

Accommodation
Whether staying in a school residence or host family, students will be expected to follow house rules. The student will be expected to make his/her own bed, help to keep the room tidy, leave the bathroom, shower and toilets clean.

Participants are expected to be home with their host families by the appointed curfew time set by their host family and must abide by other house rules. Students must advise their Host Family of where they are going and when they will be home - every day. Host Families will set reasonable times for students to be home during the week and weekends. Students must obey and respect these times in order to remain in the program.

The camp accommodation is for participants only. Guests may not be brought to the Host Family or school residence without prior written permission from the camp staff and, if applicable, the Host Family .

Responsibility and Insurance
The school/camp is not liable for the loss of property on the premises or at the Host Family. We suggest our students, before leaving their home country, to insure themselves against loss of fees through non-arrival, absence for any reason, or unexpected termination of the course. We also strongly advise all campers to leave their precious valuables, jewellry, electronic equipment etc. at home. Further, we require that all campers have medical and personal travel insurance.

Pocket/spending money
For your child’s safety we strongly suggest that your child deposit his/her money in the school’s bank which the monitors manage. We suggest that your child take a maximum of $50 to $60 per week for minor expenses. We also ask that the student bring local currency, as exchanging money at the camp or off the school premises will be more difficult.

On campus, there may be a stand/shop available at certain times where students will be able to buy refreshments such as ice cream, cold beverages etc. The monitors will assist your child in controlling their money expenditure. Bank transfers can be sent after arrival to the school’s bank account. Nevertheless, please keep in mind that transfer complications are not unusual, do cost money and it can take between one and two weeks for the entire transfer to be completed.

Weekend excursions/optional activities program
Students are invited to participate on weekly excursions to nearby cities or places of interest that are organised by the camp under the following conditions:

- activities do not include alcoholic beverages.
- written permission from parents or guardians is provided before joining the weekend excursions.
- a minimum number of other participants from the camp is reached for the activity/excursion to go ahead.

Additional sports, activities and excursions
We remind parents that it is best to pre-book any excursions or activities which are not included in the basic camp fees. Students may not enrol in these extra lessons or activities after they arrive. This must be done in advance so that availability can be guaranteed.

School/camp uniforms
Some summer schools will offer a uniform for those students who wish to buy it. It is optional. The uniform normally consist of t-shirts, sweatshirt, shorts, and perhaps a cap. In other words, it saves a lot of space in your childs luggage. Normally the items have the emblem of the summer camp on them and the items are often kept as a special memory of the camp afterwards. Costs vary and this has to be ordered in advance, with size and payment received at least one month prior to camp start date. See your particular pre-departure information if this option is available at the camp you are attending.

School waiver
A separate camp or school waiver must be completed by the participant and parents or legal guardian, following confirmation on your program. This waiver will be included in all the other documents you will receive from Teenagers Abroad, upon confirmation.
